‘Metamorphosis 1’ is a visualisation of change. Snowdon experiments with 2-dimensional patterns brought to life in 3D form. The beauty in the perfect imperfections of the deliberately hand-painted patterns reflects Snowdon’s reaction to an over-digitised world and the need for refreshed human connection. The colours evolve like a painting, from a monotone palette into full colour. As the journey continues, the piece evolves and unexpected highs ‘morph’ into chaotic handles tipped in bright colours bursting with life. A metamorphosis has occurred. Through the work, Snowdon uses pattern and repetition to play with the senses; repetition serves to comfort and soothe, whilst unusual form and colour create discord from which beauty flourishes, thus creating a very ‘human’ experience.

VIEW ENTIRE CONTROL RELEASE SERIES#6

Snowdon’s ‘Control Release’ series explores opposing emotions and how they can be visualised, working together to create something unexpected, creating a dialogue searching for balance. The extruded ring appears to ‘hold’ the piece tightly in place. In ‘Control Release 2’, from this place of ‘control’, the artwork takes a metaphorical ‘sigh of relief’, as playful handles dance around the body of the piece. In contrast to ‘Control Release 1’, ‘Control Release 2’, re-engages ‘control’ of the 3-dimensional form through colour and pattern. Snowdon follows her emotional response to colour, enabling her to make instinctive colour choices, which can be both calming and triggering. Snowdon uses pattern and repetition to play with the senses; repetition serves to comfort and soothe, whilst unusual form and colour create discord from which beauty flourishes, creating an allegory for the ‘human’ experience. The ‘Kimono Canvas Series’ is a simple graphic form hand-built using slabs. Following Snowdon’s previous career as a 2-dimensional artist, the linear shape enables her to experiment with 2-dimensional patterns coming to life in 3-dimensional form. The ideal ‘Canvas’ to explore colour interactions and juxtapositions and the instinctive mood this creates. The beauty in the ‘perfect imperfections’ of the deliberately hand-painted patterns are Snowdon’s reaction to an over digitised world and the need for ‘human’ connection. Comforting repetition and pattern work serve to soothe, bringing a sense of familiarity. No ‘Kimono Canvas’ artwork is the same. All are unique, all handmade, able to be grouped together in conversation. Embracing differences and celebrating the ‘hand’/‘human’ made.

The ‘Regular Irregularity Series’ explores the regular irregularity of being human. Hand coiled traditional shapes and slab-built cylindrical forms combine with graphic additions and twisting handles. The artwork takes you on a visual journey as comforting repetition is taken to a new world with an unusual addition of form and colour. Without these tangents the piece would not sing. These irregularities create the essence of the artwork, yet equally rely on the regular to shine. Snowdon uses pattern and colour to play with the senses, creating something original and unexpected.

The ‘Ordered Chaos Series’ uses pattern and colour to impose order to a chaotic canvas. Satisfying black linework twists and turns to ‘ground’ and ‘wrap’ the pieces in a calming fashion. Hollowed out circular and semi-circular forms create an unusual canvas with angular additions and hand coiled traditional shapes enjoy the addition of chaotic handles brought back ‘down to earth’ by clever use of colour and pattern.

‘Strong’; like taking a deep breath, filling your lungs with air. Resistance to external noise and the digital world of too much information. Finding harmony and peace in colour and calming repetitive patterns.
